Now I can also breeze on the support page as well. So It takes a connection to do that.

To prevent spam, forums on Hubzilla generally require you to join them (connect to them) before you can post or comment. It can be set up to be less restrictive, but that invites abuse.

Yes, I thought something like that. After logging out and in again, it worked. Maybe I was a bit too impatient, it takes somewhat longer to get a response from the states than from some miles away. I can cancel my application for the old people's home 👍

Ok, so the server is a bit sluggish. Well, better a not so fast server than no server at all. And for prove of concept, you don't need a very powerful server.
I hope to get a fiber connection in a few weeks/months, so I can run my own server. Should be possible with a 1Gbps symmetrical connection. I can also use co-location at very modest prices.

Right now I have this site on a dedicated server with about 20 other Hubzilla sites. They compete with resources, so it is not the best setup for busy sites, but it works well for a lot of smaller sites. For public hubs like this, I should move it over to its own VPS like I did with loves.tech and conversation.space and others.

A single user Hubzilla site can run on a VPS for about $5.95 a month. A multi-user server would be a bit more. Hubzilla is pretty inexpensive to run since it is based on common technologies like PHP and MySQL, especially compared to Mastodon, Pixelfed, and some of the others major platforms.

Daniël is also using a vps for our hub. Also at very modest prices. When I get my server running, I'll invest in a hefty firewall to keep the digital pests out as much as possible. Do you have any problems?

We just opened it up to new signups so it has about 41 channels on it. Hubzilla does not track how many log in daily.

I think that's more than Daniëls hub. I used hubzilla a while ago, but it has dramatically improved.
