Do I need to open another account on a different Hubzilla server to obtain nomadic identity?

Is it true that if I type @! In front of someone's handle then it will be a DM?

Is it possible to opt out of email notifications of comments or mentions?

I was still thinking in Facebook terms.

So Hubzilla.monster is a server where I have a login account which enables me to have not one but several social identities (channels).

Short answer: Yes. If you want to clone your channel, you have to do so on another hub. This requires a separate account on that other hub.

Think about it: The purpose of nomadic identity is to harden your channel against the shutdown of the hub that it is on. But if you have your main instance and your clone on the same hub, and that hub goes down, then so do both your main instance and your clone. And you've won nothing.

Yes.

Pro tip:

Start with @ when typing someone's handle.
Wait for the auto-complete list.
Pick the right handle and let Hubzilla auto-complete it.
Then add the ! after the @.

By the way, as Scott has already said, this is also one way to send a new post to a forum and make the forum forward that post to all members. Just mentioning a forum with @ won't work; you do need @!.

But there are two ways of posting to a forum without mentioning it. Both go via your connections page.

Either you open "Recent activity" which will show the activity of that forum. The post editor on top will send a post directly to the forum without mentioning it.

Or (this only works with forums on Hubzilla, (streams) and hypothetically Forte) you open the forum channel directly on its own hub. Your login "as you" is automatically recognised by OpenWebAuth. You will see a post editor at the top of the "wall" of the forum channel. There you can post directly to the forum again without mentioning it.
