Social Media Risk Assessment

On the internet, you may encounter a variety of content and people. There is a risk that you may encounter content that you do not like or is illegal. While we give you the tools to manage the content you see and take steps to prevent illegal content from reaching you, there still is the risk that you may encounter things you do not want to encounter.

Some of the things we do to mitigate the risk include:

  • We give you tools to control what content you see, including the ability to follow and block others.
  • We give you tools to control whether others see your content, via post permissions and channel settings.
  • We give you tools to control how people can interact with your content, such as being able to turn off comments or via post permissions.
  • We do not use algorithms to recommend posts to you.
  • We don't sell your data to third parties.
  • We remove illegal content as soon as we know it exists.
  • We ban problematic users.
  • We block problematic channels or servers.

One of the main design elements of the Hubzilla fediverse server software is user choice. You are in the drivers seat and you decide what content and people to interact with, and who not to interact with, through a variety of permission settings and controls.

People on this server must comply with our Community Rules and our Terms of Service, however, people on other servers must comply with the Community Rules and Terms of Service of their server, or if they self-host, the Terms of Service of their web hosting provider or internet service provider. They may also be in a different country or state where different laws apply. As such, what is allowed on our server may be different than what is allowed on their server.

Be sure to take advantage of the blocking tools, and to unfollow people you do not want to receive content from. You can also take advantage of the permissions settings on your account and posts to limit who can interact with your channel and content.

If someone is engaged in illegal or harassing behavior, or otherwise is violating our Community Rules, please contact an Administrator or Moderator, who will enforce the Community Rules as outlined in the Enforcement section.
