As someone who has a gender identity and lifestyle that does not match the stereotypes, this election is a bit emotional for me, and I am afraid of the future. Are bigoted people going to be more empowered to attack me for who I am? Do I have to hide who I really am from others? Is my voice going to be suppressed? What about my rights? Am I safe?

But at the same time, I am not surprised that Trump won. People like to blame the bigots and racists and anyone not loyal to them or the party in some way. But the Democrats lost voters from almost every demographic. They lost black voters, Hispanic voters, gay & lesbian voters, etc. People want change and they want policies that make their lives better, not celebrities and slogans.

I did not vote for Trump, but I am disillusioned with the Democratic Party too.

I am concerned for the future, not just because Trump has won, but also because the Democrats are so incompetent and shady. There is no longer a political party that truly represents me (even if they claim they do).

You might try isidewith.com. In addition to comparing your views to candidates, it will compare them to parties.

Thank you for the link. I will check it out. But if third parties never get elected, how will that help things? I already know that neither major party truly represents my interests.

Third parties can have influence policies. Personally, I associate with the Libertarian Party. It has been in favor of things like gay rights (it has had 2 openly gay Presidential candidates, including this year's) and against the drug war since its founding in 1971. I think the Green Party has had influence, too. The major parties try to shut them out as much as they can, but having a Presidential candidate talking about these ideas can move the Overton window. Supporting these parties keeps that pressure on. Minor parties do win local races and state races.

Or another way to look at it is: what good does it to to vote for a candidate who wins if you disagree with them? If my vote is going to be counted (and it often isn't because I refuse to vote for an R or D, even if they are my only choices), I want it to be counted for something that represents my views or at least is counted as "not R or D". This year, I voted for 2 Libertarians and 1 independent. I wish I had the option that Nevada has where I could have voted for "none of these" in the other races.
