Nomad artifacts as Attestation infrastructure
I came to Hubzilla to include its capacities in the Civic Infrastructure. The primary target is Nomad's cryptographic record production — authenticated, portable, channel-identified artifacts that will be added to the Attestation set on IPFS.
I am here to explain, discuss, and promote this to everyone — municipal and county management, local business owners, and private individuals. Looking at 'liberating' technologies as 'anti-establishment', 'anti-big-tech', 'free-speech' platforms is only the fraction of the full story. ActivityPub has been all that and more, and it has not served it well. ActivityPub gives Federation a bad name, because there are far more people aware of Mastodon than people who are willing to 'create an account', willing to visit it.
The Fediverse could become a public utility, but only if it can present itself as boring, predictable and repeatable. Today it's not — it's more like a Safari where the next bump doesn't just blow out the tire, it breaks both front axles. Hubzilla deserves better than any of the ActivityPub clients, because it was deliberate in its design, from the ground-up. Its not a 'client', its a fully rounded service stack in its own class.
I respect its brand and I will not abuse it, but I am going to try and introduce it in my county as a public utility. I will try to introduce the idea that its OK to be 'local' again, even on the global networks. Federation works the same regardless if the participants are separated by a county-line or an ocean. Maybe it works better for those who are separated by the county-line, and I am here to find that out. Thanks for reading.
